              Field signposts or field signs

              Field signposts or field signs

are important navigational elements used in the fields to mark areas or routes, seed varieties, producer information, etc:

Seed company: this is the company that researched/developed/distributed the seed. It may be a producer, or an independent seed retailer or part of a larger company. It is important to know the company that created the seed because if you are interested in planting that variety, you need to know where to find it.

Seed varieties or hybrids: Farmers have MULTIPLE options when it comes to the seeds they plant. Different seed companies designate their varieties differently, mostly a combination of letters and numbers.

Technological information: such as date of sowing, type of fertiliser used, date of pesticide treatment, and other important agronomic information.

Contact information: Plates in the field may include a telephone number or website to contact the person or organisation responsible.

Research information: If the field is used for experimental purposes, details of the research project, the institution conducting it and the responsible persons may be indicated.

Security signs: For example, ‘Protected’, ‘No entry allowed’, ‘No filming allowed’.

Directions or landmarks: Field signs can serve as directional signs, showing directions to specific sites or areas.

What is the optimal size of field signs?

The optimal size of field plates directly depends on the purpose of their use. However, the A3 format (297×420 mm) and larger is considered a standard and convenient size. This size provides good visibility and allows you to place enough information, while the sign remains compact and easy to install.

The quality and durability of such field signs directly depend on the materials from which they are made.

The main materials for manufacturing field signs are:

Metal: is characterised by high resistance to corrosion and durability. Such signs are able to withstand extreme weather conditions while maintaining the clarity of the inscriptions.

Plastic: Polymeric materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polycarbonate are also commonly used for signage. They are lightweight, inexpensive and resistant to moisture and UV light, making them a popular choice.

Wood: An environmentally friendly material that is suitable for temporary signage. However, these signs require regular maintenance and coating with protective compounds to prolong their lifespan.

Composite materials: Contain a combination of metal and plastic, making them more durable and resilient.
